Blue Door Chamber Music Presents Its Final Summer Concert
August 26, 2010

BLUE DOOR CHAMBER MUSIC AT THE PROVINCETOWN ART ASSOCIATION AND MUSEUM

On Thursday, August 26, 2010 at 7:00 PM, Blue Door Chamber Music will present its final summer concert of the 2010 summer season at the Provincetown Art Association and Museum. Violinists Benjamin Breen, Amy Kimball, violist Whitney La Grange, and cellist Garo Yellin will be collaborating with Blue Door's Artistic Directors Arthur Cook, cellist, and Deborah Gilwood, pianist. They will perform Mozart’s Piano Quartet in G Minor and Schubert’s Cello Quintet.

Deborah Gilwood and Arthur Cook founded Blue Door Chamber Music at the Provincetown Art Association in 1999. In 1985, they formed their collaboration in 1985 with performances and recordings that have captivated audiences ever since. The Newark Star-Ledger noted that 'one marveled at their delicate yet taut reading, flawlessly paced...They gave ample demonstration of technical strength, musical intelligence, expressive power, and open ears." They have performed on many chamber music series at venues including Princeton University, the New School, and Lincoln Center. Their CD, Censored by Hitler: the Rediscovered Masterpieces, has garnered favorable reviews both here and abroad.

Violinist Benjamin Breen, recognized as one of Australia’s outstanding violinists, has premiered works dedicated to him by the eminent composer Peter Sculthorpe. Returning violinist Amy Kimball performs with many new music groups including S.E.M. Ensemble, North/South Consonance and dre.dance. As a studio musician she collaborates frequently with Turkish jazz artist Fahir Atakoglu and David Byrne. From Mission, Texas Whitney La Grange recorded the Bartok and Beethoven string quartets with the St. Augustine String Quartet for the Fuller Sound label. Cellist Garo Yellin, as a founding member of the Halcyon String Quartet premiered more than a dozen new works for the quartet. He has performed at the Berlin, Holland and Montreaux jazz festivals.

Admission to the concert is $15. The Provincetown Art Association and Museum is located at 460 Commercial Street, Provincetown, MA. For more information, please call 508-487-1750 or visit www.bluedoorchambermusic.org.
